J Ch church r h primary for the blind blindin blindin i in n Ogden This same same teacher was was a source of help f for j jancy Nancy ancy Bell in primary When Nancy Bell turned twenty one she was at the school for the blind for the thelast thelast thelast last time Her delay was due to her slowness in learning Braille 1 P z 7 tj t- t tz y Z 1 t 1 1 n A z y Z J SoNN k M 9 m y i ir f t i 1 Ji z I Aro Around nd the campus with Nancy Bell You may have seen her herout herout herout out in the study foyer with a areader areader reader someone to help her study You see Nancy Bell Reid is totally blind Her blindness was to have been caused by oxygen damage to the optical nerve at birth but Nancy Bell remembers having sight as asa asa a child She recalls I do donot donot donot not remember what I saw only the sight Then at age six I lost all all vision She Site does remember her mother having told her that at birth 3 July 52 she was wasso so so tiny they were certain she would not survive A special church blessing was given giyen to her which her which she feels of her living Nancy Sell has has always r regarded herself as a determined person and a rascal too When Nancy Bell was about six ix yeas years ye r old she to the school for forthe forthe forthe the blind in Ogden This was to be her educational source for her total school life a struggle as Nancy B. B Bell II put it Many of th the known to do things contrary to helping her hert her stated she she stated She often i was Yas reprimanded if she didn't dress within a given time or kept out of of- class or long hours as a anc nc disciplinary action To her ber jt on This school had become a second home for Nancy Bell and leaving was to be bea a traumatic experience It was the only home I knew outside my real home Nancy Bell recalls After a afew afew afew few classes at an adult high school she graduated on 9 August 1980 It was through her rehabilitation counselor that Nancy Bell came to Salt Lake to live with her adopted grandparents Nancy Bell developed a hobby for old childrens children's music especially records She does not like modern music She haunts record shops with the hopes of finding more old childrens children's records She has a talent for singing and playing the piano In spite of her blindness blindness blindness blind blind- ness Nancy Bell has developed developed developed devel devel- a keen memory for what she hears She has been known to recite complete chapters of the scriptures If you see Nancy Bell Reid Reidon on campus stop and say ello She is a very perky outgoing person who loves people Someday she wants wants' to be in position to help the handicapped disadvantaged disadvantaged or she would like to have a studio for child dramatization Nancy Bell has lots going for her in spite of her handicap blindness |
