Show Vets Outreach By Grover For more than a quarter of a million american men now in their late twenties and early thirties the experience of Vietnam and the war they fought more than a decade ago is still there in vivid living color stated Dr Lester B. B Neilson of the Veterans Administration Outreach program to Utah Technical College faculty and staff In announcing the stationing of two qualified outreach counselors at the institution Neilson told concerned concerned concerned con con- faculty and administrative officers that for successful re readjustment readjustment readjustment re- re adjustment for the veteran student it is necessary for the man manor manor manor or woman to communicate some of the gut level feelings with others who may have been in the same close contact situation as they had been during the tour in Vietnam or Southeast Asia Quoting enrollment figures provided by the veterans administration office of the college Neilson indicated that more than seven hundred and four veterans of the Vietnam era are now enrolled in programs at the school It should be quite obvious to all of us concerned stated Neilson with this large a contingent contingent contingent contin contin- gent in the there are bound to be times when a veteran is going through problems ranging from schooling to educational benefits to marital difficulties to reliving the experience of combat and there has been no one that the veteran could turn to in order to get geta a handle on the problem before Now for the veteran struggling with these problems and the many other feelings there is someone nearby he or she can turn to who may have gone through very similar problems In short there is someone someone someone some some- one on this campus who can relate on a one to one basis with the student and help the vet put the problem into its proper per per- Neilson continued Outreach technicians stationed at Utah Technical College are full time students at the institution stated Neilson Assigned as technicians for the school under the veterans work-study work program are areAl areAl areAl Al Grover and John Smith Both technicians have spent six months J to one year counseling clients at atthe atthe L the Salt Lake City Vets Center on a voluntary basis Veteran students wishing to discuss problems with either outreach counselor should contact the office of Veterans Affairs in the College Center |
