Show Campus Police Concerned About handicapped Parking by Richard Smart The handicapped students and faculty at have received special handicapped parking stalls close to the campus buildings to help them get to their classes easier However many students and faculty who are not handicapped have used these stalls illegally In fact 20 handicapped parking violations have been issued since the first day of school this fall one vehicle cited was a state-owned state car from state offices according to Mark Pratt Chief of Campus Police and Security at Steve Gribble a handicapped student who attends said there are many days he cant can't find a place to park in the handicapped stalls because students are parked there illegally Gribble said If there is a place to park in the handicapped stalls everything is fine He said that one day he had to park in a red zone because the handicapped parking stalls were full He wrote a note and put it on the windshield so that a campus police officer would not give him a parking citation Pratt said that the campus police will continue to issue citations to those students and faculty who park in the handicapped stalls illegally and they will be fined per citation Part of the problem is that the campus police dont don't know how many handicapped students there are attending classes on campus There are approximately 14 handicapped parking stalls located in three areas on campus by the administration building the metals building and the college center Pratt said If I knew how many students were h we would take an inventory and add more stalls to suit the handicapped students needs Pratt said that the handicapped students and faculty have not talked to the campus police about the parking problems thus the campus police cannot solve the problems The campus police are willing to help solve this problem and urge handicapped students to express their feelings and needs in regards to handicapped parking so that the students can have a good experience at |
