B. Perkins family and the Leon Adams family combined business with pleasure during Thanksgiving week. Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Perkins left early Tuesday morning for Ephriam and Manti reaching Provo Wednesday night. The next day they were joined by the Leon Adams family where they all ate a bounteous Thanksgiving d.nner at the home of Mrs. Zola Peterson, sister of Mr. Adams and Mrs. Perkins. Shirley Ann has just won second place, or alternate, to appear as piano soloist with the Boise Symphony orchestra, at their annual Youth Concert. Shirley Ann is just eight years old. the grand Shirley Ann is Monroe James daughter of Redd, Jr. and Anna Prince Redd former residents of Monticello, and is a great grand daughter of Lucinda Redd. She started studying piano when she was 5 Vi years old, even though most teachers do not think children until they should start piano are able to read in school, at about seven or eight. However, Shirley Ann was going to the piano and picking out the melodies of pieces she heard on the radio and when she began putting chords into the left hand her grandmother decided it was time (Anna) something should be done about it. So she asked her next door neighbor, Mrs. Eva Owen Anderson, who had been a piano teacher, if she would listen to Shirley Ann and advise whether or not it was too early to start lessons. NEWS Nov. 23 Mr. Le c rnmmijL Professor Joseph Black of the government department will supervise the foreign study program for the Miami University abroad next summer. Recently appointed, Professor Black is now beginning his duties as assistant director of the tour. On the eastbound trip aboard the M. S. Italia, Professor Black wil give ten lectures discusing the background of contemporary European problems. Professor Black took his doctors degree at Northwestern University where he studied the United Nations, doing research in Washington, N. Y. and Lake two Success. He has written books, one on the veto of the United Nations and the other on membership in the United Na 1954.
