Show doblan BLANDING DING 00 SAN JUAN CATTLEMEN HOLD ANNUAL MEETING san juan county cattlemen held their annual meeting at blanding friday feb 22 the group met in the ag room at the ithe san juan I ligh high school at 10 in the mornin mor nina and two in the afternoon the following officers were elected to serve for the next year president clarence rogers vice president rulon somerville secretary joe nielson and dir directors actors melvin dalton clyde nielson and lyman bayles dale kinneman the local grazier of division no 6 gave a report of the indian situation on the range south of blanding mr julian thomas spoke on phases ol of the forest program nad and the changes in some policies lloyd stevens of the fish Fisli and game department report ed the recent trip to heart draw north cottonwood Cotto wood and shay mesa to observe range conditions and to count the deer on the trip mr stevens and cecil jones represented the fish and game service and dee black the bureau of land management julian thomasa Thomas th 0 m a s 1 the forest service and parley hurst the blanding towns people they unanimously reported there were too many deer and numbers must be controlled through some means at 2 p m johnny kartchner and bruce palmer accompanied by helen black played a saxa phone duet for thi the stockmen stoc kmen aaron harvey and reva redd sang a vocal duet they were group of three be appointed as a committee to make recommendations jack Nl nielson ielson parley hurst and grant bayles were chosen to present their views to the group who had been studying the situation concerning the delegation which will meet with the big game commission likely during july in conclusion it was the consensus of opinion of the group present that stockmen stoc kmen should lc lia palmer returned las last t week from salt lake city where they attended their mother nancy Kartch ners I 1 birthday anniversary mrs kartchner lives at the home of her daughter pearl robinson six of her seven living children were in attendance to show herl her honor and to attend open house that continued all afternoon I there was a great deal of lovely music presented daughters dur ing the afternoon A daughter of mr and mrs moulten carroll and her husband sang several beautiful duets and dar darwin w in jones sang several solos four hundred friends called during the day mrs kartchner has been a very active little lady and has run her own home until quite I 1 recently her husband john kartchner died six years ago at the age of binet ninety four ALMA HAWKINS TO NOTE BIRTHDAY alma hawkins formerly of blanding observed his birthday february 23 with members of his famil family yin in north ern utah family and friends celebrated sunday at riverton at the home of his daughter mrs J W mangum relatives gathered for a fam 1 ily dinner at noon and friends called from 2 to 5 p in I 1 j mr hawkins was born february 23 1872 at lehi a son of thomas S and elizabeth hawkins he spent his early childhood in lehi moving later 10 lo mexico with his parents who were members of the church of jesus christ of latter day saints from 1914 to 1946 mr hawkins made his home at blanding utah his wife mrs harriet ellen carlton hawkins died at blanding in 1945 he is the father of 10 children nine of whom are living there are also 57 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren he is the father of lorenzo hawkins of blanding STAKE conference san juan stake conference convened at blanding saturday evening and sunda sunday y feb 23 and 24 stake and ward priesthood and relief society members attended the priesthood and welfare meetings saturday evening the first general session commenced at 10 a m sunday with president leland W re redd d d presiding and conducting the music was in charge of aaron harvey stake chorister and mamie adams stake organist anthems for the meeting were by the grayson ward choir with reva redd conducting and margie lyman at the organ president redd spoke first congratulating and advising the members of the stake on the work they are doing he called all the missionaries who have returned in the last three months to stand to make gary lyman grayson ward william mcconkie a son of oscar mcconkie who was in blanding with gary lyman was also called to the stand to make a brief report albert R lyman was the concluding speaker and pled with the people to support the seminary and to have home meetings and teach the children the gospel in the home president redd presided again at the 2 p m session anthems were by the monticello choir with betty mcdonald conducting and donna redd accompanying guy R hurst was released as first counseled coun seler and 0 frost as the second coun counselor seler speakers were 0 frost black grant L bayles roy holyoak melvin black L frank redd and karl R lyman joe and mabel redd and junior and margaret johnson were in blanding on business friday reid and dora bayles of cortez are very happy over the arrival of a baby daughter born on the the little girl has four brothers and only one sister gary lyman and a friend william McC mcconnic mccankie McCon kic from salt lake spent the weekend in blanding at the home of garys parents mr and mrs lynn lyman william is the youngest son of mr and mrs oscar mcconkie he and gary were together in the north western states mission mr and mrs vernon C rowley were in blanding sunday from their winter home in st george they were at the conference meetings sunday mr and mrs delbert redd are at home after having spent the past few weeks in salt lake mr redds cousin don hide came with them to help with the driving but returned to salt lake sunday afternoon with gary lyman and william mcconkie mrs agnes hurst also accompanied them to salt lake mrs helen cayles and boys calvin and kelly who have spent the past two months in wellington where they are feeding cattle this winter are home for a few days frost black vint jones brock may and ozro hunt made a hurried trip rip to salt lake on business last week they returned thursday night margaret and vint jones ray and maggie lyman and arlene ebelt met harold lyman in st george friday evening and visited with him until sunday morning he was there from camp roberts on a weekend pass maggie also enjoyed a brief visit with her father ezekiel johnson they very much enjoyed the nice weather for a to be inducted into the service in the near future earl and elizabeth wright joined the group of temple ex cursio ners at manti on wednesday to spend the remainder of the week mr and mrs alma jones received a phone call sunday from their son ted who is stationed at enid okla clyde jones came in on the bus monday morning for a short visit with his parents mr and mrs marvin jones he is on his way to a new station in arizona doris mae adams is the new home demonstration agent for sevier county she reported for duty at richfield the county seat friday feb 22 she spent the following week at a convention at the college in logan miss lorraine jones is recovering very nicely from a trip to the county hospital a week ago she had her appendix demov removed ed mr and mrs lloyd ada adams MS and mr and mrs melvin adams returned tuesday from a very enjoyable trip to some of the southern states and to mexico they went first to kansas to check on the sheep that are wintering there they saw parts of oklahoma and texas the carlsbad caverns was a highlight to them as jt it is to most people they entered mexico at nogales and traveled to guaymas Gua a resort on the shore of the gulf of california they rode out fifteen miles in to the gulf in a motor boat and did some fishing they spent some time in tucson and three days in phoenix on their way back home dr and mrs matheson brought their first little daughter home from the hospital last week her brother david was on hand to welcome her mr and mrs leland redd returned last week from a trig trip zu iu the southland they visitor their son and daughter 1 ln n law mark and vera lee redd who are star toned at ft bliss el paso texas they a also 1 s 0 met another blanding b boy 0 y chester redd who is stationed there on the way home mr and mrs redd en enjoyed i oyed several sessions at the mesa temple the blanding children of mary hurst are enjoying a two week vacation with her she came from manti with her son phil when he came from salt lake last week and is staying at the home of her daughter luella the textile painting club met spent the evening edcha exchanging nging thursday evening at the home of mrs helen palmer they ideas and completing fancy work mrs palmer served lovely refreshments FORMER BLANDING MAN TO LIVE IN BRIGHAM YOUNG HOME the large brick and rock home ome built by brigham young in st george utah has recently been purchased by mr and mrs virgil goates of that city they plan to make it an attraction for tourists it is large with seven or eight bedrooms in the upstairs they have the old bed in which brigham Y young 0 u n 9 slept a and n d intend to furnish the old house as it was furnished at the time it was built the room that was his office will be made into an apartment to house the custodian and his wife and the custodian is to be ezakiel ezekiel johnson who now maes makes his home in st george they expect to move into the new old home sometime e in in april mrs virgil goates is an older sister of mrs marion G nielson of blanding mr alma redd made business trip to salt lake this week he expects to return friday mrs myrna N kimmerle had a phone call from her parents mr and mrs floyd nielson from long beach calif this week they are enjoying their vacation in california very much |
