| Show indian jailed on bootlegging and assault charge harvey jim an indian is being beig held in the county jail on a charge of assault and battery having it is alleged beaten his wife sheriff tully harve harvey and state trooper howard K E boop er were called to comb wash to I 1 investigate the complaint and upon the arrival found a still mash barrel and all necessary equipment for the distilling of illicit liquor the officers confiscated fisca ted the equipment and made a search for the offender but he had crossed the river and gone onto the reservation on securing the aid of indian reservation officers the guilty man was apprehended and brought to monticello where he was lodged in the county i jail ail to await trial it was said that the drunk crazy indian had brutally beaten his wife into a state of unconsciousness and had left her for dead he faced trial in justice court on february 1 on a charge of assault and battery and was sentenced by judge C R christensen to 60 days in the county jail and f fine me thirty days of the jail sentence to be suspended upon payment of the fine prosecution on charges of operating an illegal still are being held up until the completion of the present jail sentence for assault and battery |
