Show turning back the pages again we look backwards and brouse through an old copy of the record bringing back memories of bygone by gone days this weeks copy is taken from the december 15 1932 issue IMMENSE PLACER GOLD DEPOSITS ARE FOUND BETWEEN BLANDING AND BLUE MOUNTAINS the renewed activity in the quest for fop gold brought about by the economic depression of the country was the cause of investigation ti of the large deposits of normal wash that cover immense tracts of land from the foot of the blue mountains to the south clear to the town of blanding and beyond in june 1932 harrison and lee Shurn shumway way brothers were walking along the town irrigation ditch they took up aa a shovel full cull of gravel panned it and found it contained gold from this find their brother joined them and they commenced prospecting on the gravel hills north of blanding later marvin lyman became interested they fixed up an old rocker and saved some gold they reported their heir findings to some of the blanding people only to be laughed at and christened the broadway miners recapture creek yielded colors when panned and then investigation led the gold diggers to the beaches and hills where maranal wash showed it soon became apparent that much of the gravel of the hills also contained color walter C lyman and franklin J adams receiving some of the bannings pann ings and going over the gravel beds became interested and with the Shum ways staked off a number of claims the fact became noised in salt lake city and a syndicate composed of frank cook J W howard mckean stayner richards E B hyde and W K pitkin all of salt lake city investigated and found what they considered a valuable strike organizing themselves into a company with the Shum Shurn ways clymans and adams they have up to date staked off about seven thousand eighth u ald red ed acres of placer ground this co company will be known as the ba blanding gold company parley redd in connection with others has staked off numerous acres of ground seth Shurn shumway way being his field manager bill with the perkins brothers have located two miles square on the west water point warren allen alien and a number of other blanding people have taken numerous claims also the gold comes in flake and round gold and from all evidence comes from the blue mountains and is found in large porphyry dykes and lode claims results of tests along the washes are said to show as high as to the yard while estimates from panning of many of the higher deposits are claimed to run from 50 cents to per yard agreement has been entered into with the blanding loriga i tion company aher whereby eby the company has been granted a stream of water with which to commence washing the gravel it is understood that elaborate plans have been made for opening and working the deposits as soon as the weather conditions permit in the spring A force of men have been employed for a month past building ditches to the beach gravel deposits the company estimates that when the ditch is completed and the weather opens up so that washing can begin a large force of men will be employed it is stated that a payroll of per day will not be beyond the realm of possibilities as soon as the ground can be worked to capacity |
