Show i resolution Concerns Gasoline taxes and license money the proposal to let the people vote as as to whether or not gasoline taxes and license money are to be conserved for use on highways with the federal government matching our tax dollars 3 to 1 is before the utah legislature I 1 ture as senate joint resolution 1 1 its consideration is particularly particular ay important to people of the rural areas where highway construction j IS is of vital importance H C warner chairman of the utah postwar highway planning com I 1 j cittee officials of the association of southern utah civic clubs the association of northern utah civic clubs and members of the utah municipal league an organ I 1 1 of smaller towns and communities of the state this week issued an appeal to utahna P particularly of the rural communities for the support of no I 1 before the state legislature the measure is a proposal to let i the people of the state vote as to whether or not the use of highway I 1 taxes gasoline tax and auto licenses should be limited to the purpose for which they were levied for construction and maintenance I 1 of highways and airports where the state money is matched 3 ter I 1 by the federal government at the request of the civil administration one small change was made in the wording of the proposed amendment t it originally limited use of gasoline money to highways and airplane strips this was changed to read highway and aeronautical purposes which would allow its use for the full construction of airports large and small including emer 1 gency fields under the new wording the CAA can match funds with the state in the construction of airports mayors city and county commissions town boards civic and service clubs and individuals interested te in highway construction have been asked by tom jensen of mt alt pleasant secretary of the of civic clubs of southern utah and secretary of the utah postwar highway planning committee to wire or write the senators and representatives from their districts immediately asking a favorable vote vole upon the resolution |
