| Show sending papers overseas increasingly difficult tremendously heavy overseas mailings have prompted the pst office department to tighten the clamps on that part of its service effective july I 1 the department ruled that newspapers mailed to servicemen in the navy marines and coastguard must be in wrappers bearing the notice mailed in conformity with POD order no papers sent to army personnel overseas however are to be mailed as heretofore under POD order no As it would be impossible for a civilian publisher to decide in all cases just what branch of the service his subscribers are members of it was decided to clear up the fog about overseas mailings by requiring only a single wrapper bearing both numbers this was done dine at a recent conference of officials of the post office dept the navy and the national editorial association overseas mailings will now be made in wrappers bearing the wording mailed in conformity with POD order navy andor POD order army which will lin include clude all overseas servicemen seivi cemen the new order also requires that papers offered for mailing overseas shall be accepted only when they are being sent in fulfillment of written requests initiated by the addressees under this regulation present subscriptions can be continued until their expiration but cannot be renewed unless the serviceman indicates in writing to the publisher that he be wishes his subscription to continue in other words even if parents su subscribe for the record for ther their son overseas they must ask him first to write to the paper stating that he wants to receive it these written requests must be dept kept on file by the publisher for inspection by the post office dept |
