Show fort lewis college possibilities of a ba basin sin wide concert orchestra and chorus were suggested this week by J thomas scott fort lewis colleges new music department head as a post war project in the basin development program along the cultural side our elementary and h high i g h schools are turning out highly creditable bands and choruses suggested maestro scott but too few of the pupils go ahead with their music afterwards the reason is that too few communities provide the opportunity in the way of community organizations such as orchestras bands or glee clubs for these young musicians to continue they lose interest and i finally whatever skill they hadde had developed up to the point of leavi ing school mr scott is a graduate of colorado state college having received his B M degree there in 1943 fort collins has been his home for many years although he taught for some time at the che raw schools near la junta an accomplished pianist mr scott is also an organist and a cellist of note as well as a composer mr scott succeeds miss lorene juhl who is now teaching in the public school system of des moines iowa |
