received a call to go on a mission to the indians they will leave at once and stay till school starts in the fall when brother lyman will go on with his school teaching they are not sure yet where they will go but will report at shiprock and will go wi pre they want them to go ge ua hurst returned from a six I 1 m mission last week which he says he enjoyed very much he was well posted on the gospel so he lost no time in doing a lot of good we are looking forward to his report in church for a few days between rays return and the time the clymans leave is the first time in history of blanding that there have been no mission 0 aries in the field friends of mr and mrs bernard black met after the dance friday night to cook their supper also planning an outing for sunday afternoon they want to see that he enjoys what time his furlough will permit another dual purpose dance was held friday night when they welcomed jed harris home and also bade him farewell he spent two recently on a mission for lE hurch and is now joing going to serve his country the party was also for several other boys but john hurst was the only one of them there we were fortunate in having two servicemen home on furloughs furroughs who were also honored the program consisted of several musical numbers shot talks by jed je d john dewey and bernard very appropriate comments were made by bishop rogers mrs margie lyman present ed each of the boys with a box of homemade home made candy and wished them well in behalf of the red cross saturday afternoon was a big day for the bee hive girls of blanding blan ding it being their swarm day they enjoyed a program lunch and games with their mothers and it was noticed that the mothers enjoyed it as much as the girls the program was under the direction of lila palmer the girls sang their bee hive call song prayer by jennie lee sipe A humorous skit by la vay wright glyda conway erma bielon eloise walker and rhoda jane nielson clarinet duet by julian edith harvey ahey hey took more X rays of burk tt burn at pullman wash and t aim he would be transferred to a hospital at spokane mrs lovell palmer received word of her brother being at home in moab so she went t to 0 spend a week with him and her folks ile he has been away fortio for two years most of the time overseas and this is his first furlough fast day services commenced by singing the and his hia 2000 boys and what their mothers had taught them and could see there was vas a lot of that same teaching being given to these boys each boy by FLORENCE GALBRAITH mrs waldo harvey entert entertain Lin c honor of her so cyd 1 1 birthday at her home Mond monday evening about 20 young folks enjoyed the table games and refreshments fresh ments it was a surprise party mrs bernice burtenshaw and mrs vera gans entertained at a stork shower for their daughter and sister mrs afton montella last monday afternoon at affons home close relatives and friends of affons were invited she received many lovely tiny articles for the new daughter who arrived early sunday morning at their home lovely refreshments were served and games of rook were enjoyed during the afternoon papa frank and mama afton montella think this wee girl is the only daughter that ever was and darling she is too with h her e i long black hair she is lucky to arrive before her daddy leaves for the service they have a son to help welcome the newcomer the girls of the sixth grade gave their teacher miss rosamond hurst a surprise party monday evening at her home the the girls brought the refreshments and presented miss hurst a box of stationery ti onery sixth grade graduation exercises were held wednesday afternoon in the high school auditorium invitations were issued to the parents and brothers and sisters of the students the invitations are really cute as they we were remade made by the sixth graders themselves delsa black who is employed at hill field is home this week to visit while her brother halvor is home on furlough helen ranney and glen holyoak of moab expect to be married on may 18 in the salt lake temple glen is a son of H J holyoak of moab where the young couple expect to make their home these young folks have the best wishes of their many friends both here and in moab mab we will greatly miss helen in our school library A trousseau tea was given friday afternoon at helens home she had on display all her lovely trousseau things which would fill a church house the handwork is beautiful and was practically all done by helen herself from the looks of things she lacks lacka nothing to make her trousseau complete mrs alma jones jone assisted at the refreshment table many friends called during the afternoon with gifts and to wish helen much happiness her mother received the guests mr air and mrs oscar hurst who spent the past winter in layton working on a war essential in industry jus are here to see their daughter joan graduate from our san juan high school they expect to leave for layton friday morning marie harvey their granddaughter and joan expect to accompany them back to seek employment there for the summer gave a short well prepared talk which proved that the mothers had put in a lot of study with the boys leonard hurst talked on faith bevin wright on prayer quoting D C see sec 29 devon burtenshaw said the lords prayer and told how it was of how he had enjoyed the primary work and that though he was not a member of cf the church the teacher and the other boys had treated him fine ernest halliday told a story of how honesty pays hester
