Show forest and aind range fire fighters to fee ae instruction meetings on 1944 summer grazing licenses have been held this week by the grazing service on monday may 8 at blanding and monticello and on may 9 at bluff fire school is to be held friday may 12 at the san juan county court house beginning at 1000 a m this schol is being held jointly by the forest service and grazing service officials representatives senta tives of each organ 11 specialized in fire training will be out from ogden and salt lake city for the occasion in addition to lectures and demonstrations on fire ion and suppression methods it is planned that there will also be actual field experience in fire control somewhere in tile vicinity of monticello this his school is being held printy 9 iy ay to train forest and range acs lighters fighters in methods of tire fire fighting but anyone interested in this phase of work will be we welcome to attend this school the fire problem in utah is estimated in figures that show an average of fires annually with a burned area of 22 acres for each fire within the national forests on the unprotected acreage of state county municipal and private lands the number of fires as closely as could be estimated over ove r a ten year period totaled for each year or 2450 during the ten year period these figures point out the need for organized forest fire prevention and duppre suppression assion work the forest ro rest and range fire fighters service intends to drastically reduce both the number of fires and the acreage burned there are three kinds of forest and res to cope with in utah namely surface crown and spot fires these will be dealt with and explained in the session sessio n tomorrow along with much ether athe r valuable information and instruction it is expected that many county folks will avail themselves of the opportunity to attend the meeting planned in accord with information given above and in the previous issue of the record |
