Show ward host to old folks the annual get together party for the old folks sponsored by the monticello ward under the direction of a special commit committee was another happy occasion for the invited guests 0 on friday evening As announced last week the party was held on the spacious lawn of the lovina redd home and a more beautiful day or place could not have been chosen some forty guests gathered between five and six while the commit tee finished its preparation and set the long table where a bountiful supper r was served fried chicken vegetables relishes and salad topped off with delicious ice cream cake and coffee corn com the menu after supper the general chairman frank halls presented bishop L frank redd who welcomed the guests and paid tribute to the older inhabitants calling attention to their long and useful lives luring during which time history was in the making in id this section of t the e country bishop redd also paid tribute to the fine committee commit tea wl wh ch has served continuously each year to make the party a success he announced that this committee is being released and a new one appointed to carry on the usual custom of entertaining the old folks from year to year mr halls then introduced the entertainers and the program got under way the first to be called were the misses jo and lucy redd who played two duets for piano and saxophone miss alta redd reada read a beautiful prayer written by a soldier major raymo raymond nd massey judge F W keller was then called on t ts sing his famous blue mountain song for the benefit of guests who were unfamiliar with the characters and episodes so cleverly introduced in the poem set to music judge keller explained the detail of its origin he later told several interesting stories as only he can tell them another selection by the misses redd and two violin selections by tom evans accompanied by mrs L frank redd closed the program mr halls then paid high compliment to his group of co work ers and concluded his talk with some witticisms which were timely and much e enjoyed joyed fi A rousing vote of appreciation in the form of applause was offered when mrs will hyde rose to suggest this action one of the invited guests A K sell from out olit east ast also spoke a word of appreciation for the fine ico operation cooperation co extended by chemor the mormon people to him and hi ass s family ewhen when they came from the midwest some 12 years ago mr and mrs sell settled in ucolo bucolo in the late fall and have lived lived there ever i since the committee which has ear car ried through the arrangements i each year preparing a fine meal and other entertainment for all I 1 who have reached the age of 60 i includes mr and mrs frank halls mr and mrs wilford christensen mr and mrs donald T adams mrs joe adams and mrs lovina redd it was with regret that the continued on page five L D S WARD continued from page 1 assembled guests bade them farewell but with appreciation for the fine manner in which they have served over a period of years mention was made by the chairman in his final word of the wholehearted whole hearted support given him and the cheerful way in which each member served the undertaking is one of the community projects sponsored by t L DS ward and paid for abe Vs he church as a tribute 0 o the older members of the town and outlying districts for the past several years members of the home of truth who have passed the 60 year mark have been included and this year there were six of us present needless to say we too appreciate this courtesy and wish to thank the committee and the church for the hospitality and friendship extended to us |
