Show la sal national forest committee holds meeting A meeting of the forest advisory committee of the la sal national forest was held at the baker ranger station monticello utah on friday august 28 according to information received from forest supervisor L D heywood of moab present were karl S barton earl somerville lloyd somerville joseph L nielson harve williams L frank redd james M forest rangers ralph jensen and john E mcdonald and supervisor heywood james M of monticello w was s elected president of the committee ml atee for the coming year with thomas jones as vice president and L frank redd red d as secretary karl S barton was reelected elected re to represent the forest on the state board of the Wool growers association cia tion with floyd nielson as alternate william young was reelected to represent the la sal forest on the state cattle horse growers board with harve williams as alternate the deer problem on the la sal forest was discussed and the committee agreed that it was the responsibility of the state to 0 see ee that excess deer were removed from the congested areas the committee went on record as fa favoring v the selling of 10 day licenses throughout the year with each hunter being allowed to purchase as many of such licenses as he desired A change in the commensurability standards for the forest was recommended d and approved by the committee the old standard for the northern division of the forest required that each own private land which would produce one ton of forage for each cow or horse permitted on the forest this was reduced to one half ton with the added provision that spring and fall range owned or leased by the per mitte e kasac septable cep table in meeting the standard provided such range or a combination of such range plus harvested forage would carry the permitted stock for a period of six weeks the standard for the south division of the fore forest S t rem remains a ins the same except that provision was made for using spring and fall range in meeting the standard pro vided aided such range or a combination of range plus harvested forage would care for the permitted stock for a period of six weeks the standard for sheep for the entire forest was set at 15 ton of harvested forage and 2 ton of grain per 1000 sheep or spring and fill fall range sufficient to care for the permitted stock for a six week period the la sal forest is in receipt of approximately to bemused be used for special re seeding projects which will help to increase the continued on page 4 LA SAL NATIONAL 0 continued from page 1 meat ineat supply of the nation luring during woodi the war emergency mr Hey heywood said after discussing the situation with the committee it was decided to reseed re seed the following areas the brumley ridge allotment the banks area the area at the head of indian creek and the elks mountain area |
