Show bluff resident passes suddenly enIy 0 with the passing of reuben E powell of bluff last week another old time resident of that town wa called 0 o his eternal rest mr powel I 1 W had recently returned from a trip into new mexico where he I 1 visited with relatives gething n wednesday evening july 22 in apparently good health hissam his family was shocked to discover that he had passed away during the night funeral services were held on friday afternoon in the relief society hall with bishop john D rogers in charge john kartchner offered prayer and david black and bishop rogers were the speakers A vocal solo by ernest adams accompanied by his daugh daughter tei shauna and a violin solo silo by joe hunt accompanied by his daughter idonna were much appreciated burial was made in the bluff cemetery with an uncle of mr powell al foutz of farmington dedicating the grave mr powell was born orn at monroe utah on october 30 1872 the son of sturdy pioneer parents he was married 0 o miss ida may foutz in 1986 and they resided in tuba city arizona until 1907 at this time the family moved to bluff where they have resided continuously since with the exception of a few years residence at cortez colorado during which time mr powell was presiding elder at various times he has been engaged in f freighting ing farming indian trading and stock raising he was also deputy sheriff in the county for several years the surviving members of the family are his widow mrs may powell four sons jay and june of bluff claude powell of blanding and francis powell of flagstaff arizona three daughters mrs hortense sieber of monticello onti mrs fern black and mrs grace shumway of blanding anding BI there are also two sisters mrs julia tanner of sevier utah and I 1 mrs laura of portland 0 oregon regon and 27 grandchildren mr powells sudden death came as a shock to the community and it is felt that with his passing has gone one of san juans most prominent and beloved citizens |
