Show cast rest resident of san juan passes 0 elizabeth wilcox hurst died at her home in blanding utah july 1942 close to a century of living she had her birthday on the of the month she was born on the of july 1851 at manti utah daughter of john henry owen wilcox and mary young who were the first couple married in the salt lake valley she was married to philip hurst hurs the of a september 1868 in the old endowment house salt lake city she was the mother of ten chil ya six of whom survive her luella nielson of la juara colo geo gao A hurst sr of manti dr hugh hurst of salt lake city and oscar parley hurst ruth H redd and john frank hurst of landing anding she is also survived by one brother justus wilcox of alberta canada and four sisters martha westwood and mary day wf of moab clarissa mileine of payson and hannah carlston of salt lake city her descendants at the time of her death numbered 10 children 77 grandchildren great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren in the spring of 1891 she moved with her husband and families from fairview san pete county to colonia dublan old mexico her husband died there july 14 1901 preceding her in death by 41 years in the fall of 1911 she came t the united states to visit her children in the summer of 1912 the colonists were driven from their homes in mexico and she never returned since 1912 she has been a resident of blanding she has seen the pioneering of utah with all of its interesting experiences perien ces she helped melt and mould bullets to be used in the black hawk war and with the other women dried meat and made butter crackers to be eaten by the continued on page 4 OLDEST RESIDENT 0 continued front from page 1 men who were fighting from the time she was 14 years of age she helped as nurse in the towns where she lived in times of sickness death dea h or birth she was always there a willing neighbor ip in the first years in old mexico she was set apart ss as a special nurse under the hands of george teasdale while there she was also active in relief society work she had charge of the temple burial chest and the gathering and storing of wheat she has had a long and useful life of service until the last her mind was clear and bright her life stories are a valuable contribution to pioneer history funeral services were held in the blanding blan ding ward chapel july at p m bishop john D rogers officiating speakers were luella H rogers andrew peterson D john rogers walter hurst and albert R lyman opening prayer was offered by president leland W redd benediction by bishop grant L bayles music was under the direction fi of the ward chorister R W mcallister med mcd assisted d by organist mary L adams numbers xen rendered gendered dered b by y the choir were 0 my father theres a beautiful country god be with you till we meet again and come corie come ye saints C claude robbins sang a solo though deepening trials pallbearers Pall bearers were philip hurst delores hurst dale P redd wm riley hurst grant hurst and john R hurst george A hurst jr dedicated the grave I 1 |
