Show Ute' seeks re-election -0 Republican Ute Knowlton is seeking re-election as State Representative Repre-sentative of District 17 (Kaysville. Fruit Heights, Farmington and Centerville). He believes his experience, leadership positions, knowledge and understanding of the complex issues will allow him to be an even more effective representative of the people. At this time he does not favor a tax increase and believes there will be sufficient revenue enhancements enhance-ments available to properly fund education and state governments needs without a tax rate increase. "Favoring a tax increase without full information of available revenues re-venues and a careful review of the budget would be irresponsible." he said. While in the Legislature he has served as chairman of General State Government and Capitol Facilities, and vice chairman of Revenue Re-venue and Taxation Committees. He also has served on Higher Education Edu-cation Appropriations, Transportation Transpor-tation and Public Safety, and Agriculture Agri-culture and Health Committees. He has been instrumental in gaining increased funding for Davis County Vocational Education. Among important legislation that he has sponsored includes "Truth in Taxation" (simplifies and involves in-volves the people in the property tax process). Being a life long resident of Davis County with pioneer heritage herit-age from Kaysville and Farming-ton Farming-ton he feels he understands many of the problems unique to this area. He attended the Davis County UTE KNOWLTON schools, married Gail Whitesides, and has eight children. Dr. Knowlton Knowl-ton is a physician, formerly in family fami-ly practice, now a radiologist. He received his college degrees (BS and MD) at the University of Utah with high honors and is now serving serv-ing as a clinical instructor at the University of Utah Medical School. Ute has always been active in his church, community and country. During the Vietnam conflict he served as Commander of 3 1 st Field Hospital and attained rank of Lt. Colonel. He has served as Kaysville Kaysvil-le City Recreational Director. He also has been a member of the Board of Trustees for the Utah Heritage Foundation and Cottonwood Cotton-wood Hospital. He also served as Chief of Staff at Cottonwood Hospital. Hos-pital. Ute was a volunteer with Project Pro-ject Hope providing medical services ser-vices to disadvantaged in Guatemala Guate-mala and also served as a medical church representative to Guatemala Guatema-la during the earthquake. |
