Show our weekly chat dear friends under this caption and on this page during coming weeks you will receive latest news about our I 1 progress and other items of interest concerning daily aaili happenings in our valley settlement we have decided on this p plan an for two reasons the one because some of our distant readers have expressed disappointment since our weekly page these changing times timea has been discontinued and they are asking for something of personal nature to take its place and the other because of inquiries being made regarding our progress since the mishap of october ath we shall therefore substitute this column each week and include c information about our family as well as relay the latest word about the fine progress we are making since we are on the subject su abject may we say that if it were not for the 94 weight and bulk of the awful cast we are compelled to wear walking on crutches be half as bad as we thought it might be with the splendid team work on the part of mary cameron and our daughter roberta we are being beautifully cared for as they take turns in serving each assuming certain duties during the round of daytime hours and so life has assumed a definite routine again for which we are indeed grateful with the help of mary who comes to our cabin before I 1 six each morning we move into the middle room and so our day begins just a wee bit later than was our custom to rise roberta then takes her turn and after breakfast we move into the living room to begin our daily routine of recording writing letters preparing material for the paper etc so in spite of seems seem i ing handicap we are making fine progress and before long we hope I 1 to master the art of walking to still greater degree since it is tiresome to remain in one spot and position for long periods of time we take several trips during each day however and also walk out on the broad verandas or sit in in the sunshine which is so lovei lovely i ly now that the storms are over friends who come in to see us from monticello or other points who have never been here marvel at the beautiful scenery as viewed from our windows and porches and are so surprised that we have such lovely temperature in this valley the weather is ideal just now and this adds to our joy during these days of confinement during the past week our men A D and hebe spent several days at our seven mile farm harvesting a fine crop of potatoes stopping occasionally at the claude young ranch to gather the last bits of garden produce there incidentally we had a generous yield of tomatoes continuously since july from that lovely garden also carrots cabbage and other garden truck throughout the summer another garden spot in monticello through the kindness of mr and mrs arthur wood who shared their garden patch with us during the summer yielded other varieties of vegetables all of which helped to furnish an abundance of green things for daily use needless to say we are grateful for these things and for the fine apples we received last week from mrs blake in exchange for some work david did on the blake property last spring while A D and hebe were busy harvesting last week david worked on the cabin the men are building for hebe in the middle section and we are told that it is is now enclosed and the roof com plated some other time we will tell ell you about this experiment and how it has slowly but surely taken form on sunday morning our family met in in our place of abode for the usual ten service andall agreed it was a very inspiring and lovely hour the day was beautiful and the warm sunshine streaming in added to the joy of our meeting needless to say we enjoyed this reunion and until we are able to get down to the chapel the sunday morning service will be held in our living room in closing may we offer word of appreciation to our many friends who have made inquiry about us in monticello as they contact our workers coworkers co there also for the many kind notes received through the mail from local and distant friends it helps a lot to know that you are with us in thought and we are grateful for your words of cheer and encouragement during these uncertain days |
