Show san juan scouts A make trip to I 1 california fair morris woodward son of mr and mrs glenn woodward and gordon redd son of mr and mrs parley redd both of blanding were the only two scouts from san juan making the trip with f h other scouts from the state k Y A description of the trip written by one of these scouts follows 1 i the caravan left pra provo va july aist at am a m there were 36 including the scout leaders in the party we traveled by bus especially chartered for the trip the first night we camped at winnemucca nevada reaching this place just before dark the next day we lunched at reno while there the scouts were given a free swimming party at the community pool after seeing the city we proceeded on to I 1 sacramento Cali fornias state capital i I 1 in this city we camped on the fair grounds A visit was made to the state capitol building and ands A guide conducted the I 1 g binds ants ts through the building show ang them many interesting exhibits i leaving sacramento early the next morning we drove to oakland and san francisco we cross crossed edthe the bay by ferry and went on to treasure island to the fair many new wonderful and aduca I 1 dional sights met us here 1 j we had the pleasure of goings going i aboard a japanese navy training boat at the fair we met boy scouts from 11 states after i having ceremonies in which fred die bartholomew talked to the scouts we were conducted thru the fair grounds it would take two weeks to see everything at on friday we left san fran the fair i cisco and started down the coast to los angeles we visited yosemite park the oil fields at bakersfield ers field hollywood beverly hills and camped in beautiful griffith park the next day was spent at santa catalina island swimming in the great pacific ocean and having a wonderful time leaving los angeles we proceeded down the coast and camped at san diego the next day we v sited tia juana old mexico and then back to san diego and vis cited north island the U S naval air base from san diego we started by way of boulder dam we were conducted through this dam and had a swimming party in beautiful lake ake meade we came on to cedar city the same day next day we reached provo at about 2 p pm m having been gone about two weeks and traveling in all about miles the trip was supervised in the most efficient manner and every one certainly enjoyed himself |
