Show heavy rainfall soaks so aks county good for crops A series of storms drenched monticello and outlying sections the first of the week and caused considerable inconvenience to travelers some damage in certain places and death by drowning of a woman who was caught in a dry wash just beyond thompson A heavy rain sunday night was followed with intermittent showers on monday and in the late afternoon came the torrential downpour which added to the f fast ast filling ditches and formed lakes in low places just north of monticello on the main highway were many evi evidences of the storm and deep gullies were made as the water tried to find an outlet w when hen the culverts cu lverts overflowed from the rush of water A former moab resident mrs turner and her two sons were caught in the storm when they tried to reach their ranch a short distance beyond thompson as they walked through a wash near their home A great rush of water entered the wash and mrs turner was swept away but the boys managed to cling to some cottonwood trees and finally made their way to safety although one of them was badly cut and bruised mrs turners body was recovered re ov on tuesday we left town during the height of the storm and experienced one delay after another due to the slick roads and the water which accumulated in our valley heading for the fred keller ranch to get two of our men who were working there our car skidded into the sagebrush a short distance in from the highway fortunately a tr truck uck coming from the ranch pulled us out and back to the i highway arriving there just as david debruine and A D miller hove in sight drenched to the skin from walking in the rain our troubles continued when we entered the valley road leading to our homes where the condition was even worse because of the water which formed into lakes from the highway to the middle section causing deep ruts luts which 1 made driving hazardous due to the deep water through which we passed the engine was flooded and soon the car stalled and refused to go farther our men walked through rain and mud to the middle section garage and brought the truck to our rescue towing the car and taking us the rest of the way home in the truck it took more than three hours to make the trip from monticello to our destination and although the water has drained out of the valley here are dangerous holesa holes all along the three mile drive which warning we pass on to other travelers who may go through the valley to the ranch or to our homes |
