Show I 1 paradox resident answers summons A well known and much loved paradox resident mr mrs s george S ayers passed away rather unexpectedly on friday afternoon august 11 although she had been in in poor health for the past two years and had suffered a slight stroke about two weeks ago mrs ayers was well known for her progressive and helpful way of living and in addition to rearing her family she f found time to serve on the school board and was active in all f form orin of welfare work in the community the crowded schoolhouse where the funeral services were held on sunday morning and the many floral tributes brought by her friends were evidence of the love and respect which they felt for martha ayers because it was impossible to secure a minister from either of the neighboring communities marie M ogden director of the home of truth colony near monticello utah who was a weekend week end visitor in paradox valley was asked to conduct the services at the school house and cemetery A quartette of paradox friends sang two favorite hymns during the service and one at the grave as the body was placed in the quiet and peaceful resting place beside that of her son who passed on some years ago the following obituary was prepared by bv the family and was read as part of the service martha jane lorraine bowers was born feb 18 1895 at peters burg indiana in 1908 she came with her parents to montrose colo and later latek moved to paradox valley in 1910 where she lived until the time of her death in february 1911 she was united in marriage to george S ayers to this union were born four children all of whom survive but one son asbury who passed on in 24 at the time of her death mrs ayers was 44 years 5 months and 24 days old those whom she leaves to mourn her passing are her husband geo S ayers three children homer ayers of silverton colo otho ayers of nucla eucla colo and frankia eads of paradox also her parents mr and mrs J L bowers of norwood colo two sisters mrs adeline king of ironton mrs doris ferguso of norwood six grandchildren several nieces and nephews besides a host of friends and neighbors mrs ayers was active in the social as well as the business affairs of the community having served as secretary of the school board for several terms when a friend or neighbor was in need of a helping hand and martha as she was lovingly called was never lacking in assistance |
