(Prcpartd by lh Dnltwl StatM Department . of AKricultura.1 Children seek sunshiny places to play in almost as Instinctively as kit-tens look for warm pleasant spots where the sun's rays help thera to drowse contentedly. Both . children and other young growing things need the nnobBtructed ultra-viol- rays of sunlight to keep thera well und help them develop normally. Children, however, must be specially dressed for sun bnths, In mich a wny thnt the largest possible area of skin surface may be readied by the beneficial rays. The little sun suits shown In the pic-ture have been designed by the bu-reau of home economics of the United States Department of Agriculture to meet this requirement Cool, thin print Is used In one case, with very short, loose legs and comfortable shoulder straps which are broad enough to prevent slipping down. Legs, arnihoUs,- - and ,neck ' pre. IJnUhed with a flat binding, this garment' is cut from a romper pattern having a fold In the crotch. It is roomy and loose all over, with specially , good length from neck to crotch. A match-ing lint or short-backe- d sun bonnet could be made to protect the little girl's eyes from glare during the hot part of the day. The other little suit Is more boyish in cut, with short trunks or trousers of opaque white material buttoned to a waist of heavy net, reinforced by flat gtraps. This type of waist allows the ultra-viol- rays to reach even more of a child's skin than the print-ed fabrics. It is necessary to accus torn children gradually to their sun-bath-by exposing them for a short time each day when the temperature is 80 degrees Fahrenheit or more, uu til they acquire a coat of tan. r rt Don 't Overlook ihil subacrintinn. Winnipeg. A thrilling battle be-tween a big black whale and a giant H fox shark was witnessed near Pender Harbor, B. C, by Horace Williamson, a rancher. The result of the contest could not be ascertained, as the com-batants battled their way out of sight, while both appeared to be prepared for a long fight. Williamson noticed white wuter ahead 'while navigating his gas boat toward Garrow Point. Knowing that there were no rocks In that vicinity, the spectacle aroused his curiosity and he steered for It. As be got nearer he saw the back of a whale rise from the surface un-til four and a half feet were exposed. Just as he started to resume his jour-ney he noticed the square Java of a fox shark break water neor the whale. Then the fight began. The shark, ap-parently six feet broad at the shoul-ders, had arched out of the water over the back of the whale, slashing at the massive creature with bis tall. Seven times it repeated the attack within 300 feet of the spot where Williamson aat in his small boat "I have seen wolf fish, sharks, and whales In British Columbia waters many times and I could not have been deceived," said Williamson, after re-lating his experience. "The shark must have been nearly forty feet long, tapering to thin tail from its massive shoulders. The fight was something which I have never seen before and probably I shall never see again." CLUB GIRLS LIKE ORDERLY CLOSETS Old Broomstick Used to Hold Clothes Hangers. (Prepared by the United States Department of Agriculture. ) The girl in the illustration Is a mem-ber of one of the 4 H clubs in room improvement directed by the United States Department of Agriculture and the various agricultural colleges. She has made certain changes in her room at the suggestion of the dub agent In-cluding the rearrangement of her clothes closet Freshly painted wood-work and furniture, a revarnlshed floor, and new covers for her bed and other pieces of furniture were also a part of the improvement she effected. In the closet, which she wanted to make orderly and attractive, she put a lengthwise pole made of an old broomstick, and provided as many clothes bangers as she needed, to economize space and keep he"r gar-ments fresh and unwrlnkled. Having the closet arranged so that It was Just as easy to put things away Making the Closet Orderly. as to throw them on the bed or a chair, was a direct help in curing this girl of some untidy habits she had de-veloped. Many mothers have doubt-less fround tt difficult to train their laughters to be neat at borne, and per-haps the reason to a lack of suitable ways of keeping order. During the warm months when there are several dresses In the wash for each girl or woman in the family, and a great many for the little tots who wear cotton rompers or bloomer dresses entirely, It is a good plan to keep a supply of bangers downstairs near the Ironing board. As each gar-ment is pressed It can be hung on a banger and placed on a line or a clothes horse until It Is dry and well aired. "Death following a chase of a Maltese cat up a tree," reads the sergeant's report accounting fur the disappearance of Boze from a cell in the Hyde Park police station. Boze, a fluffy Spitz, was given po-lice escort to the dog pen at the sta-tion after being found barking af the font of an elm at his crylne quarry high up on a branch.
