Show A CASE OF EVERYBODY it is is surprising to learn that some of those reporting to the county health committee are not in favor of the cooperative movement for the development of an efficient local health service as indicated by the questionnaires returned we cannot get the viewpoint of these negative ones regardless gard less of what ones station may be in life it appears to us that such a program will prove beneficial to the man of means it will be a protection because under the existing system he is often forced to pay fees all out of proportion to the service rendered on the theory that some one must make up for the bad debts that the doctor loses and so sit it really results in a policy of soak the rich on the part of most doctors for the man of average income and means who is at least solvent it amounts to health insurance just the same as fire insurance one may go a long while without a fire and the man carrying insurance may apparently be paying money out for nothing most of his life but when calamity does strike it prevents a loss of disastrous proportion inthe same way in the case of a serious operation which sews up the average family financially for a term of years and sometimes wrecks it completely the shock is removed the family pays a reasonable amount amount regularly when they are well and producing and when serious sickness descends upon them they are sheltered and prepared for it and the poor or unemployed family which has no protection whatever in case of sickness this cooperative program will through various welfare groups provide coverage and prevent them from the slights and neglect usually accorded charity cases if they are considered at all and so we can see no grounds for objection upon the part of any individual on the other hand there is every reason why each inhabitant should welcome such a departure from conventional lines as they now exist you will note that the best off people in this county are strong for B M the program yet certainly the cooperative will mean quite as much to our poorest citizens who have no means to employ doctors or pay hospital bills this is simply a case of everybody being benefited and we ought to do everything in date our power to make it a reality at the earliest possible according to information recently issued by the nation safety council fatalities from automobile accidents decreased 29 per cent in the 34 states from which fatality reports were received yet utah was one of the 12 states that showed an increase increase in these fatalities there is s something om ething wrong with utah drivers evidently we have hav e not learned our lesson yet |
