fast there was once a very good leader he had been over the trails many times and he was getting old so the next day they were going to kill him ile he begged them not to kill him and I 1 lie would show them a way to carry him they said they would do it and this is the way he told them get two poles and cover them with skin I 1 carry the two poles over your shoulders they did it they carried him that way avay until he died this has been called a litter and it was a very useful thing too FOURTH GRADE honolulu hawn march 8 1937 dear dad and mother I 1 arn am writing this from honolulu I 1 its surely a pretty place I 1 want to tell about my trip and ad so ill start from blanding anding BI I 1 came am to sit salt lake lak city with bishop bayles from there I 1 came on to san francsco by plane then I 1 got on the china clipper I 1 and flew to hawaii for a week or so I 1 travelled around with a friend I 1 have seen banana trees and eaten bananas until I 1 thought id bust I 1 have visited schools and churches of hawaiian towns and ad now I 1 am learning their language I 1 have seen the volcanoes and most of the country I 1 never get lonesome like I 1 did when I 1 first got here on a steamer it will take about a week to get there the san francisco bay is a beautiful place there two cliffs that you zo go between to come in and out at evening eining when the sun shines on the water it makes it look like it s gold they sor so call it the golden gate gale harbor in the harbor there are quite big waves but when you get out on the ocean you think you are going to tip over when you go in to the harbor in honolulu it loo looks ks as if cocoanuts cocoa nuts are floating around in the water but when you get closer it is hawaiian boys diving for coins sincerely yours ardis ar d N dear esther I 1 am taking an imaginary trip to hawaii on the great steamship malo we get our bags on the ship and then go out on deck we leave the san francisco bay and sail through th the L golden gate out of the tha bay we sa sail i 1 through waters of the pacific ocean to leach the hawaiian islands when we come near the island we saw what we thought were big cocoa nuts but as we came nearer we saw that it was some little brown headed boys we threw coins to them thein when we landell landed we heard beard people singing I 1 on the beach they had leis on leis are flowers strung on a string what they cat mostly is poi roi poi Is made from taro they made us welcome on the land we saw a mountain that looked as if it was on fire but we saw that it was a volcano the name of the city we are room to play the piano for us we dance while iche plays we have lear ined some nice dances and games and we will learn leam some more we like to dance and play it makes us happy mrs redd and mrs young
