Show special activities of home of f truth and sanjuan Sa iJuan go co HISTORY OF THE HOME OF TRUTH MINING activities OF 01 THE HOME OF TRUTH when we came to san juan county in the fall of 1933 we knew we would be expected to take over a mining claim and the writer and his family were assigned to work on the blue mountains about 18 miles from blanding where we went on our arrival from twin palls falls idaho we found others already assembled from other places although they had not been long and were engaged in setting up tents and making aing cabins out of logs which were collected from nearby places our first home was a tent and we soon sot set to work to help the others other build the community dining room and general living room our purpose in this undertaking under was i ans to develop the resources of thi part of ol 01 our state which is so rich in in mineral deposits we began nit work in this field of service in december of the same year but blit under very adverse conditions flue due to ico tle he winter season ahead of us andoor inexperience in this line of work although these condition to be a wonderful schooling for vs rs during the following min hs ald ad continuing through noth l rommer and another full year of time until the fall of 1935 we renta remained ined a this out post and com camp J about feet of tunnel to or the oT eji of the mining claim which we had leased eased we were then aliew d to 16 poni ill ahe winter months 14 dry VJ valley ley nerr church hurch rock with the oth members of our ur colony and in the of 1936 we returned to top i till exl began work on one of our own I 1 lamis which was in the I 1 all of 35 33 under very cry unusual circum I 1 t ance which will be given in another r 11 I 1 le lc at some other time in connection with this piece of de work we ve completed feet f tunnel tannel and sunk a shaft of 12 feet nathe nahe he entrance wv we worked through s brur vein of zite and Ph contact which has a show inz ine of gold silver and manganese ores we continued work on en this claim until a few weeks ago when we returned to the lower alti altitude tude for another season with our ether members although alth rugh we are arc at present all en in developing a placer ground claim at creek sonic some four miles out cut of blanding where we expect to continue work until the r real eal I 1 winter sete in on our in top site we also als have five lode claims on which we have done considerable development welk and where ie e shall continue to work vork next year our living quarters on this mountain out post consist of a general Carri Cowlin unity airall and several smaller and some tents wo we also built toads roads and established new trails to make the journey to this distant place more accessible access ablo able it is a long and tedious trip from our dry valley settle anent and includes a drive of 54 miles ty by auto and a walk of three miles up a steep mountain trail in closing this account of ct our mining activities the writer wishes to state that he and his family have been very happy in their work and are arc eagerly looking forward to 10 the time when we ve may open a way to develop other resources to be found there which include limestone foi malting cement sand which may may be L turned into glass as well as numer crous crons iron deposits i there aro are also various kinds of clay which may be used in timm making ing I 1 brick and pottery for I 1 san juan c oun coun i ty has a vast supply IY of such resources I 1 I 1 we MY may also add that we have t added to our equipment an assay y outfit which enables us lus to oo 00 0 o our own test work and so fu values of our ores with less expense than formerly wg we are arc grateful to our father for these many gifts and for the lege of being a part of it this great i iroil our aim and purpose is to us lisp them at all ti times mes for the inie 0 falip chis kingdom on earth and for the good of our or fellowmen fel ray 0 bush NOTE the next article will to rc liap aown F ft ef the of the early da lays y s in repard regard to the part te oe women clyed in this import antwork |
