Music for the wedding ceremony included "We've Only Just Begun" by John and Sharon Morgan; "Evergreen" by Angela Morgan accompanied by Janice Stauffer and prelude and postlude music by Lena Goble. Music for the reception included a harp and flute duet by Tiffany Allen and Stephanie Kirkham. A dinner buffet was catered by Merlene Turner and served by Emily and Allison Marston. They're college kids who like to dance and sing, tell jokes and entertain. en-tertain. But, they're also a close-knit close-knit group of students, known as Hands Up. who are trying to make a point about a particular handicap--hearing impairment. WHEN UTAH State University's Universi-ty's Hands Up recently staged its annual spring concerts, six Davis County residents were featured. They are Nola Allen, Sunset; Brianna Bacon. Kaysville: Nick Deelstra. Layton; Tim J. Johnson, Bountiful and Wendy Richards and Alan Taylor. Farmington. The troupe offered professionally professional-ly choreographed dancing and jubilant, jubi-lant, from the heart singing with a big difference. American Sign Language Lan-guage is integrated into every song and every set. The Hands Up program prog-ram was a combination of musical hours each week interpreting lectures lec-tures for students in USU classes, attends rehearsals looking for mis-signed mis-signed phrases, or scenes and signs that won't be understood by deaf people in the audience. MEMBERS OF Hands Up come from a varied background. Only one student is hearing impaired. Another grew up with sign language, lan-guage, the natural communication for his deaf parents. Others are interested in-terested in working with deaf people peo-ple as interpreters or have learned sign language in class and want to keep their skills current. Other students got involved mainly for an opportunity to perform. per-form. But. the common goal among the students is to provide an entertaining enter-taining evening for deaf people and promote awareness amone hearinc During high school. Brianna was named Sterling Scholar in speech and drama and attends USU on an academic scholarship. NICK, SON of Gerald Deelstra and Elaine Sprouse. is a sophomore sopho-more majoring in family and human development at USU. A 1981 graduate gra-duate of Layton High School, Nick attended Weber State College. At USU. he serves as an interpreter for hearing impaired students. Tim. a 1980 graduate of Bountiful Bounti-ful High School, is a senior majoring major-ing in business finance at USU. He participates in Danceworks. Sounds of Zion and Sigma Gamma Chi. He is the son of Clifton and Josephine Johnson. WENDY, DAUGHTER of Rhead MOTHERS wore black crepe accented with black beads across the shoulder and waist. Flowers were gardenia and red roses. Tasia Marie Parkin, bride's niece, was a flower girl. DAVID DALE Saiz. formerly of Bountiful, was best man. Andrew Parkin was an usher. The men wore black tuxes with red accent. Prenuptial parties were given by Annette Marston, Teri Call Christ-ensen. Christ-ensen. Mona Bunting. Rebecca Salari and Maria Armour. The wedding cake was made by Bever-lee Bever-lee Carmack. THE BRIDE is a 1 979 graduate of Bountiful High and graduated from Weber State. She is currently teaching math and coaching girls sports at North Davis Junior High. The groom is a 1979 graduate of Bountiful High and is employed as a carpenter for Stouts Construction. Construc-tion. After a honeymoon to Jackson Hole, Wyo. and Vancouver, Canada, Cana-da, they are making their home in Farmington. MR. AND MRS. PAUL R.ADAMS i Paige Parkin and Paul R. Adams were married March 6 at the Can- lerbury Hall by the bride's father. Bishop Darrell L. Parkin. THE BRIDE is the daughter'of ' Darrell L. and Merilyn R. Parkin of s 141 E. 100 S.. Bountiful. Colors were black and j white with red accent. j THE BRIDE wore a white satin gown with lace bodice with hand ! sewn pearls, long train trimmed ! with matching lace. She carried j two dozen red roses, fern, baby's breath, accented with black i ribbon. ! Matron of honor was Pamela Cooper, sister of bride with Rebecca Rebec-ca Salari as maid of honor. Claudia and Linda Richards, began her studies stu-dies at USU this fall in business and personnel relations. She also participates par-ticipates in Sounds of Zion and enjoys en-joys tennis, signing and soccer. Brianna. a communications major ma-jor at USU. graduated from Davis High School in 1985. She is the daughter of Charles and Jill Bacon. |
