BLODGETT News Editor BOUNTIFUL-One of the largest drug raids ever conducted in Davis County was carried out w ith "great success" by the Davis County Metro Drug Strike Force early Tuesday morning. UNDER THE direction of Bountiful Boun-tiful Police Chief Larry D. Higgins, task force administrator, law enforcement en-forcement officers from throughout through-out Davis County participated in the countrywide raid which began about 5 a.m. and concluded five hours later with 34 arrests. Armed with warrants for arrest, law enforcement officers from each community and Davis County Sheriffs Department swept rapidly rapid-ly through the county -- getting people out of bed -- and making the arrests. BY 10 A.M., 34 of 37 warrants for arrest had been served." said Sgt. Bill Collard of the Bountiful Police Department. "We expect to have the remaining three arrested within a few days. Several of those arrested had more than one complaint filed against them -- or a total of 82 complaints com-plaints among the 34 arrested. Sgt. Collard explained. "THIS (RAID) concluded four months of intensive investigation and our primary purpose was to make arrests for prior occur-ances." occur-ances." he said. The complaints filed were for possession of a controlled substance subst-ance and-or sale of a controlled substance. Drugs included marijuana. mari-juana. LSD. mushrooms, speed and cocaine. "A SMALL amount of drugs was apprehended during the arrests, but the primary purpose of the raid was to make arrests, not to see how much hard narcotics we could find." Sgt. Collard noted. Among the 34 arrested thus far. there were three husbands and wives and two of those husbands and wives had teen-aged sons who were also arrested, he explained. MOST OF the arrests were made in homes throughout Davis County. Coun-ty. One site was near Bountiful High School where some of the drugs were confiscated, according to police reports. One arrest was of a State Prison inmate who was brought to Farmington (Davis County Jail), booked on prior alleged occurances. and released to the prison. "I believe that this raid will do a lot to stem the (low of drugs to our school children as well as the open market." Sgt. Collard emphasized. empha-sized. "We can't stop the drug How entirely, but we can slow it down considerably by taking these pushers oil" the streets." OF THE 34 persons arrested. 19 were for male adults. 7 female adults. 6 male juveniles and 2 female juveniles, police reports showed. |
