Show SIGNERS URGE LIQUOR STORE AUH abolishment A petition was being circulated in in monticello the latter part of the week and during this week asking signers to back a move to abolish the liquor store in this town when questioned as to the reason for the move to banish the state liquor store from our midst backe backers rs of tile the move stated that many bo boys i and girls had been seen in an intoxicated condition since the store began operation just before the holidays no charge of cf mismanagement of the store was made but it is said that customers eligible to procure liquor are apparently reselling it to any I 1 1 group of youn youngsters who can rake up enough nickles anti and dimes to pay for it when asked by a record represent i I 1 ta datil til whether it would not be better to have them get bonded liquor from the store than bootleg stuff the reply was that a cleanup clea null of bootleggers I eggers is also contemplated i although those soliciting signers to the petition were reticent about naming specific caes baies e is evi 1 donee that many many young boys and girls are arc contracting the booze habit no information as to the number of signers procured thus far is at present available aside from the alleged degenerating effect of a liquor stole within our town limits it is said that about per day goes out of the town to the liquor dealers and that this drain on the countes coun tys resources makes a considerable difference in the wel fare of local families I 1 |
