utah nevada and california the resettlement administration program in these states 13 is administered by mr packard and a lional re staff with the assistance of five state directors the state OF RESULTS continued from first page close to the border line another important phase of the resettlement administration program is resettlement proper which contemplates work of a more permanent sort in stabilizing agriculture and raising rural living standards ian dards this work ia 13 just starting it should reach many farmers who have lost their properties thru foreclosure and should benefit young couples with a farm background backan aund and agricultural college training who need financial aid to start homes and gain a foothold this is a program of broader scope and longer rang than rehabilitation which is designed to meet an emergency condition of dis distress tress as rapidly as possible 41 it is with W farm families n now ow living in unproductive areas I who may may need aid in relocation many families in order to better their conditions ons will have to move this mean means that better locations must be found where such readjustment is necessary through a third activity a land and planning section we expect to develop a specific specify C land jand use adjustment program fu for fluture tutu re use A detailed study ii is n anuw ti made of areas in the fi five ve states 0 orthis region as a guide for development on land readjustment in the abe future retirement of sub marg nal lands is another activity there are no funds available for ita it extension this year but last beir several tracts in new nev mexico and a large tract in utah were purchased from a federal fund allotted for the buying of land being improperly y usei used and its transfer to grazing forest indian reservation areas and for such purposes as seem better fitted to their use A division called community and cooperative service has been organized to help farm groups in the administration is farm debt adjustment which was carried on last year by state and local committees this work outgrowth of one of president Roosevel ts fireside talks in which he urged farmers in danger of cf foreclosure to call on their government I 1 for help has saved american farmers rs from foreclosure and bank bupt rupt cy during the brief period of cf its I 1 i operation it proposes to help arrange an adjustment between a farm debtor where the debtor faces an impossible situation and creditor under which t the he debtor given reasonable opportunity will be able to discharge his debt and retain his land it involves loan renewals and extensions planning programs for repayment and all the financial details designed to fit individual cases it is a highly important part of our general
