Show Primary elections needed j Political filings ' By GARY R. BLODGETT News Editor FARMINGTON-After only two days of political filings, there are already two county offices in which a primary election will be necessary, according to Patty Hartley, director of Davis County elections. THUS FAR, all of the candidates who have filed are Republicans, Republi-cans, she said. Of the eight county political offices "up for grabs." the county attorney, two county commissioners and the surveyor have not yet filed. Incumbent surveyor Glenn Austin has announced his retirement retire-ment effective April 1. Incumbent Commissioners Harry Ger-lach Ger-lach and Glen Saunders have indicated they will probably seek re-election, and Atty. Loren Martin is expected to run for another term. PRIMARY ELECTIONS are already assured for the offices of county attorney and auditor. Attys. Jack C. Hclgcsen and Melvin C. Wilson have filed for county attorney and incumbent Ladean Goodfellow Gibbons and newcomer Jon E. Daich are seeking the office of county . auditor. OTHERWISE, IT'S an "open race" with filings by Willard L. : Gardner, assessor; Carol Dean H. Page, recorder: Brant L. Johnson, sheriff; and Pauline W. McBride, treasurer, being uncontested. Only two of seven Utah House of Representative scats have been filed for in the first two days. Kim R. Burningham has filed for re-election in District 19. and Scott W. Holt is seeking another term in District 14. HOUSE SEATS are open in district 13 through 1 9 and in State Senate Districts 2 1 and 22 now occupied by Dona Wayment and Haven J. Barlow, respectively. ! Robert L. (Bob) Thurgood has filed for the non-partisan scat in District 5 of the Davis School District. SINCE MR. AUSTIN is retiring as surveyor, the Davis County Coun-ty Republican Party will vote on three nominees for his replacement. replace-ment. Davis County Commissioners will make the final replacement replace-ment appointment. Deadline for candidates for this position is past and the three-member three-member selection is expected to take place March 27 at 7 p.m. in the conference room of Davis School District Central Office. FOR NON-PARTISAN offices, incumbent justice of the peace Dean O. (Gus) Anderson has filed for re-election. No one has yet filed for three city and one county constable posts. |
