Show DEATH CLAIMS BUSINESSMAN Funeral services for Cornelius Zappey, 60, 1940-19th East, prominent promi-nent LDS church mission president and Sugar House businessman, were held Wednesday in the Mountain Moun-tain View LDS ward chapel, 1889-17th 1889-17th East. Cornelius Zappey came to America Amer-ica from his native Holland at the age of 17 as a convert to the LDS church. In later years he served two missions for the church in the Netherlands and served as mission mis-sion president from 1946 to 1950. In October, 1953, he presided over the East Central States mission mis-sion until he became ill in March, 1955, when he returned to his home in Salt Lake. He was a member of the high council of the Hillside LDS stake, member of the church foreign committee com-mittee and president of the Dutch Church organization for ten years. President Zappey was married to Adrianna Meyer who survives him as does their daughter, Mrs. Harold Stander and six grandchildren, grandchil-dren, one brother and two sisters. He will long be remembered for his work in assisting Dutch people to migrate to America, as well as the work he did for the people of Holland during the war years. His business, the Holland Furniture Furni-ture company, was begun by him as a second-hand store and through his hard work and efforts it has grown to become the well known business it is today. |
