Show From Sen. Wallace F. Bennett Sen. Wallace F. Bennett (R-Utah) (R-Utah) last week got an assurance of "unprecedented improvements" in Utah's National Parks and Monuments. The senator disclosed, following follow-ing a meeting with National Parks Service Director Conrad L. Wirth and other top officials of the NPS, that definite plans now have been made for the Utah parks both on a short-range and a long-range basis. "For the immediate future, we have an appropriation of approximately ap-proximately $1.5 million, which is almost three times the amount for the current fiscal year," Sen. Bennett explained. "And for the future, we have a detailed 10-year program of steady development of roads, visitors' centers, campgrounds camp-grounds and other facilities." The senator emphasized that none of the money would be used to expand the boundaries of existing ex-isting areas. |
