Show From Washington Dawson Hails Colorado Victory; Bennett For Parks From Rep. William A. Dawson WE MADE IT ... In reviewing the events that led to the victory of the Upper Colorado River storage stor-age Project in the House, I am most impressed by the unity displayed dis-played by the people and representatives repre-sentatives of the Upper Basin States. It is to be fervently hoped that this unity will continue during dur-ing the coming years as the project proj-ect is being constructed. NO POLITICS . . . Tempting as it is in this election year, it will be difficult for anybody to credit either the Democrats or Repub-lcans Repub-lcans for furnishing the margin of victory. Certainly President Eisenhower's strong backing of this measure can be given a great deal of credit for our success. But as the vote shows, it was a truly bi-partisan coalition that won for us. In Utah, Democratic party leaders worked as hard as (Continued on Page 6) CONGRESSMEN (Continued from Page 1) Republican party leaders for victory vic-tory and both should share in the credit. GAINED STRENGTH ... As debate progressed on the measure in the House, we gained strength. Southern California's intensive propaganda campaign worked to our benefit. Congressmen from the rest of the nation were confused con-fused by the conflicting claims as to costs and benefits. As a result, the debates were much better attended at-tended than is usual with legislation legis-lation primarily of interest to one region. EDUCATION EFFORT . . . Special Spe-cial commendation should be giv- , en to the active members of the Upper Colorado River Grass Roots Committee. The educational material ma-terial prepared and circulated by them factual and attractive was very effective in neutralizing the flamboyant, Hollywoodish efforts ef-forts of the opposition. |
