Further scuttlebut says the new shake-up and the brassy promotions pro-motions are designed solely to eliminate or force retirement of 30 to 40 old timers, men whose pride won't let them be shoved around, especially after they've done their work well and without complaint. In fact, one already has asked for retirement. Others are known to have rebelled re-belled at reassignment almost to the point of insubordination, infuriated in-furiated at the changes which they feel are uncalled for. Is that any reward for years of service? Is that any incentive for the rookie cops? Is that any good for police morale? a Several are outspoken in their dissatisfaction over the department maneuvers which stem from the office of the public safety commissioner. commis-sioner. The only happy ones, it seems, are the cops who were advanced from captain into the assistant chiefs roles. But their appointments were not happy appointments among the members in the department. No, indeed! Some of it is jealousy, no doubt. Some of it, however, is bound to have justification, because such unpopularity can't just happen. |
