Show PROVO MAY END OWN LAKE POLLUTION As the American Fork sewer and disposal plant construction progressed, pro-gressed, Provo last week sought to withdraw from the proposed Utah countywide improvement district planned to end Utah lake pollution from sewage. Mayor C. W. Love of Provo sought permission from the Utah county commission to withdraw from the planned district in order to construct its own disposal plant. Provo has been one of the Utah county communities which has dumped raw and untreated sewage sew-age into the lake, contributing much to its pollution, it was reported. In a meeting between city officials of-ficials and Burton H. Adams, county commissioner, Mayor Love reiterated the city's willingness to proceed alone to stop flow of raw sewage nto the lake from its outfall out-fall lines. The mayor said the city has been unjustly accused of supporting the county-wide project to gain financial finan-cial advantage in construction of treatment facilities. Mr. Adam said it is unlikely the city would withdraw from the district if it succeeds in being established. Utah County Farm Bureau Federation Fed-eration and other rural representatives represent-atives have demanded a count of property owners to determine if 6,024 written protests filed with the county were sufficient to kill the district. |
