Show THE TAX BURDEN IN RELATION TO UTAH'S ECONOMY RATE OF INCREASE IN TAXES AND PRODUCTION The tax burden of Utahns has multiplied multi-plied almost six and one-half times between be-tween the 1935-39 - base period and 1951. Total taxes in 1951 were nearly eight and one-half times as gTeat as the amounts paid in 1929. Utah's share of Federal taxes accounted for the largest percentage rise, having multiplied fourteen four-teen times since 1935-39 and twenty-one twenty-one times since 1929. State taxes and fees were four times greater than in 1935-39 and almost ten times the 1929 total. Local taxes and fees paid in Utah during 1951 were more than double the average annual local taxes paid during the 1935-39 period and twice the amounts paid in 1929. Production and income increased in somewhat smaller proportions than did taxes in Utah during the same period. The estimated value of Utah's mineral production in 1951 was three and one-half one-half times the average yearly product of the 1935-39 base period and slightlv more than twice the value of 1929 s mineral production. The value of agricultural agri-cultural products marketed in 1951 was slightly less than four and one-half times the 1935-39 average, and about three times the value of agricultural marketings in 1929. Unofficial estimates place the value added by manufacturing in 1951 at four and three-quarter times the 1935-39 level and at three and one-half one-half times the value for 1929. Utah's total individual income for 1950 was slightly more than four times the 1935-39 1935-39 average and about three and one-quarter one-quarter times the individual income for .1929.
