Burbidge, who will stand for re-election in Nivember, was elected elect-ed to his first four year term in 1951. He had previously been appointed ap-pointed to the commission to serve out the term of Commissioner David Da-vid A. Afflect who died in office. Civic leader, churchman and businessman, Burbidge has served with the Salt Lake City school board, the Salt Lake area vocational voca-tional school and the Salt Lake County Red Cross. He was recently named president of the Pioneer LDS stake. He was associated with his father, fath-er, the late George W. Burbidge, in the management of Burbidge Coal Company. He resigned his affiliation with the coal company upon becoming a member of the city commission. Burbidge's candidacy in the 1955 election was announced officially by W. Hughes Brockbank, chairman chair-man of a committee of prominent Salt Lake civic and business leaders, lead-ers, formed to support the water commissioner's re-election. "The future growth of Salt Lake City is almost wholly dependent on the continued development of a plentiful and sanitary water sup- water commissioner job, and other members of the city commission. It is founded on the Deer Creek reservoir and other similar projects proj-ects developed over the years by the Metropolitan Water District." |
