Show MELIHKOVICII TO COACH JUDGE HIGH Former Notre Dame Ail-American George Melinkovich has been appointed head coach at Judge Memorial high school, it was announced an-nounced by Rev. Mark O. Benve-gnu, Benve-gnu, director of the school. Melinkovich will coach Judge football, basketball and baseball, and will teach classes in physical education and hygiene. Assisting him will be Rev. James T. Kenny, who will continue his duties coaching the football line and Uie junior varsity basketball and baseball teams. A member of the last freshman squad coached by Knute Rockne, the new Judge mentor became the first sophomore to hold down a regular spot on the Notre Dame team. The next year 1932 he was top scorer of the team and won national honors. After guiding his high school teams in New Jersey to several state championships, Melinkovich came west and headed the Utah State team in 1949-50. The Judge Bulldogs will greatly benefit from the experience and know-how brought by their new coach. |
