Show EDITORIALS Do We Have The Gumption? OUR fears have mounted steadily that Congress will do nothing about the Hoover Committee report on government govern-ment reorganization. We're happy to say, however, that we have at least written to our congressmen asking them to give their support to legislation which would put the Hoover report into effect. We would be very glad indeed if we could marshal all the startling facts of government waste into print and frighten all our readers into action, i. e., get them to write their congressmen. congress-men. Since there are many authoritative articles in the Hoover report in current periodicals, we will confine our remarks to this idea: If the majority of citizens are sufficiently aroused, and do something about it, the acceptance of the Hoover Committee's Com-mittee's proposals will prove to be the most progressive step in government economy made in our time. The benefits in billions of dollars saved through tne elimination elimina-tion of waste, and the increase in efficiency, will be felt by ah ciizens. Enacting the recommendations of the Hoover report would mean much more to the country than the saving oi money. It would prove to ourselves and to the world that American democracy has the gumption to con-ect evils in government gov-ernment as they become evident. Get a penny postcard or a piece of your stationary and jot down a few lines to your congressmen right now. Tell them that you are watching to see what they do about Mr. Hoover's ' very important report. |
