Show Hold Your Ears Saturday VFW Invites Bovs to Join Fife and Drum Corps If your ears start giving you trouble around 10:30 Saturday morning, that would be the first workout of the VFW junior fife and drum corps getting underway under-way over at 2040 So. 11th E. Dr. Don C. James, commander of Sugar House Post. 3586, Veterans Vet-erans of Foreign Wars, announced announc-ed that the project, on which a committee of the post has been working for several monthst is now ready to start, and the first rehearsal has been called for a finished organization which, i after a bit of training, will be j able to present a wide range of numbers. The group, for which a nucleus has already been signed sign-ed up, will perform in parades and other public affairs, and as it develops into permanent organization, or-ganization, plans will be made to provide some classy uniform. uni-form. The VFW have hopes of build ing up the Sugar House organization organi-zation first, and then expanding expand-ing into other groups in vari ous sections of the city. John V. Buckle has been active on the committee obtaining the instruments in-struments and getting the movement move-ment started, as has Wendell W. Whitney who will be in charge of the initial meeting Saturday. The post is anxious to have all boys interested turn out for Saturday's meeting, whether they have had any training in this line or not. Rehearsals will likely be held every week after aft-er the start, and the instruction instruc-tion will be free to an. 10:30 Saturday. Clarence Hawkins, Haw-kins, noted band master and instructor, will be on hand to get the boys organized and direct di-rect their . enthusiasm in the right direction. The post has bought a number num-ber of fifes and other instruments, instru-ments, and any youngsters in the 12-15 age group desirous of joining the organization, are Invited In-vited to attend this first meet- ing and rehearsal, its not necessary nec-essary to know how to play instruction will be given and instruments in-struments furnished, free of charge. Dr. James explained that the other instruments also will be welcomed into the group, clarinets, clari-nets, trumpets, besides drums, with the idea of rounding out |
