Show THE AMERICAN OF THE AMERICAN WAY Last week a 17-year old blind girl returned from Minneapolis where she had spent five weeks getting acquainted with a new but very good friend, her seeing eye dog. The trip to get the seeing eye dog was made possible by the Sugar House Lions club. In May, Roma Escojido and her parents came to Salt Lake from South Africa. They had friends here, Mormon missionaries who had served in Johannesburg, other than those acqaintenances, they had little claim to our way of life. Now the newcomers know something of the wonderful things that can happen in this nation when one needs a helping hand. The Lions club learned of the plight of the young lady through a member of the club, C. L. Rockwood, whose missionary son had become acquainted with the Escojido family while in South Africa. The Lions club was quick to act and in July the new-resident new-resident was on a plane bound for Minneapolis. Friends and neighbors neigh-bors were on hand with gifts for her trip prior to her departure. Praise is due the Sugar House Lions club for serving a generous portion of the American Way to this new-comer to our valley. |
