Show War Losses Vary Greatly la Two World Conflicts Seven major countries combined com-bined suffered 77 per cent of the military deaths in the First World war and 90 per cent in the Second Sec-ond World war. Yet their losses in each conflict varied tremendously tremend-ously as shown by the following figures, the first being for War I and the second for War II: France 1,358,000 167,000; British Brit-ish Empire 908,000390,000; Italy 650,000 175,000; United States 126,000325,000; Russia 1,700,000 3,000,000; Germany 1,774,000 3,250,000 and Japan 3001,500,000. |
