Show Libbie Edward News and Views EDITOR'S NOTE When we visited the Libbie Lib-bie Edward school we werie so impressed with the way democracy is bring taught, and practiced that we asked the students and teachers to write about their work. We are pleased to print the following fol-lowing material which we received from the youthful died. We are afraid they will all starve. Here are some foods the birds will like on a feeding tray: sunflower, sun-flower, squash, pumpkin, melon, and apple seeds; scratch feed, peanut butter, table crumbs, cracked peanuts, and other nuts; dry cereals; rolled oats, raisins, apple cores, berries, and grains. We have studied Franz Peter Shu-bert Shu-bert and now we are going to study Stephen Foster. We all enjoy school very much and like our teacher. attitude and appreciation is far more important than teaching bodies of facts. Huff Libbie Edward School We believe that democracy is the best form of government and that it should be practiced in our classroom as well as in our state and nation, Morris Cannegieter SIXTH GRADE Reporters: Philip Cloward and Renee Sorensen In our room we 'have some unusual things like Weepin' Willie, who is our suggestion box When we don't like something some-thing we write a note and drop it in him, then Mr. Cannegieter, our teacher, reads it to the class. We have another unusual thing in our room, it is the work bench We have a jigsaw and a vice. We cut out things on the jigsaw. Many students have made useful and decorative things on our work bench FIRST GRADE In our room we have a "merry-go-round." The seats are made of orange crates with cardboard animals on the sides. It has a large umbrella on it. It turns on some wheels. Mr. Walker and Mr. Worthington helped us build it. We take turns riding and pushing so that all of us will have some fun. We believe be-lieve this is democratic. SECOND GRADE Reporters: John Varley and Helen Wiseman Teacher: Helen H. Roberts In our second grade we are learning many new things, we are learning- about the postman post-man and how he helps us. We are interested in stamps from our country and other countries. coun-tries. We have had four stamp collections col-lections brought to school. Tomorrow To-morrow we are going to visit the Sugar House postoffice ar,d learn more about how we get mail. We want to find out more about stamps too. |
