Show To Speed Up Tax Collections To speed up collection of de-liquent de-liquent state taxes, the State Tax Commission has changed its procedure to shorten the time given for payment. Patrick Ilealy Jr., chairman of the Tax Commission, said that an investigation has shown that in many instancese the taxpayer had removed himself beyond the reach of the collection remedies reme-dies available to the state before be-fore action could be taken under un-der the old procedure. By shortening the time limit lim-it and by having several of the field men deputized, to serve warrants directly and to supplement supple-ment the work of county sheriffs, sher-iffs, the commission believes that not only will more delinquent delin-quent taxes be collected, but that the cost of collecting these taxes will be materially reduced. A study of the delinquent tax list has shown that many of the same names appear on this list each tax period, and an effort will be made to "educate" these people to the necessity of paying pay-ing their taxes on time, Mr. Healy said. "The hand of the tax evader is picking the pocket of all honest hon-est citizens who abide by the law," he added. "You are paying pay-ing the tax he evades." |
