Show Kirkham Speaks At SUP Meeting Oscar A. Kirkham, prominent scout and church leader, told members of the Sugar House Sons of Utah Pioneers at their regular monthly meeting, March 28, to continue an active youth program. Main speaker at the meeting, Mr. Kirkham told of his experiences at the recent World Scout Jamboree. "If you want to perpetuate a good thing, teach it to a youth," Mr. Kirkham Kirk-ham said. He had special reference to the current S.U.P. contest for pioneer pi-oneer stories to be written by 3'oung people. The statewide contest, now in its second year, was planned to encourage young people to learn more about the pioneers. Eugene J. Neff is chairman of the contest for the Sugar House chapter. David M. Evans and Parley P. Giles are assisting Mr. Neff in notifying schools, seminaries, and other young people's groups about the contest. Deadline for the local event has been set for April 20, Mr. . Neff announced. Judging will I take place May 2 for five winners. win-ners. Prizes alreay offered arc: a radio from South East Furniture Fur-niture Co., a watch from O. C. Tanner Jewelery Co., and auto seat covers from the Lambert-Cox Lambert-Cox Parts Co. George R. Bicsingcr. second vice president of the Sugar House S.U.P.. conducted the meeting and introduced Mr. Kirkham. Horace A. Sorensen, chapter president, presenter! Mr. Kirkham with a globe (world) on a stand in appreciation of the speaker's services. Music was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Willis Cowlcs and Carl Reimann. |
