Show He's Zooming Zamp Now! Lou Zamperini, ex-Southern California Cali-fornia ace and international track star, perches at set-mark on a B-18 bomber at Midland Army Flying school, Midland. Texas, where he is a bombardier cadet. Zamperini is holder of the world's record for the mile for high school tracksters. He was a member of the United States Olympic team in 1936 and won seventh in the 5,000-meter 5,000-meter event at the Berlin games. The Torrance, Calif., human bullet bul-let set records for inter-collegiate competition while at USC. He hopes army training will help him excel his fastest mile, ticked last year at 4:07.6 in Madison Square Garden. Right now Lou is getting set for a return visit to Berlin and he won't be track running this time. |
