Show TEA SCARCITY Imports Cut 50 Per Cent; Nation's Tea Drinkers Must Cut Waste. Tea drinkers can help stretch the Ration's tea supplies by using a little lit-tle extra care in their tea brewing. All the tea that America uses must be imported. All of it comes through the war areas. With the cut in imports, im-ports, only 50 per cent of last year's deliveries to the trade are available avail-able to consumers. But this does not necessarily mean that Mrs. America must cut her tea drinking in half, since a considerable con-siderable part of this cut in supplies can be made up by eliminating all waste in the brewing and using of tea. Tea-Saving Methods. The OPA Consumer division reports re-ports that according to tea experts the following tea-saving methods tan provide American households with nearly the same amount of tea they usually drink and without changing the flavor materially. In brewing tea, use one level teaspoon tea-spoon of tea to a measured cup of rapidly boiling water. This amount of tea provides the stimulant that most tea drinkers like, and continued contin-ued steeping brings out the tea flavor. fla-vor. Experts advise that tea be steeped or brewed for about five minutes, but for those who want a milder flavor, two minutes is probably prob-ably long enough. For making iced tea, the Consumer Con-sumer division recommends a new and tea-conserving method of brewing. brew-ing. Use one teaspoon of tea for each cup of freshly drawn, fully boiling boil-ing water. Scald the teapot, put in the measured tea leaves, add the boiling water, and allow the tea to steep for a full five minutes. Strain, allow the tea to cool, then chill it In the refrigerator. |
