Show Mario Features Coburn Charles Coburn, veteran character actor, and Tom Drake, one of filmdom's most promising promis-ing juveniles, join hands in bringing to life A J. Cronin's tender story of the friendship between a shy and sensitive youngster and his lusty great grandfather in "The Green V Years" which opens Sunday at the Mario theater; Told in restropect, the growth of young Robert Shannon (Tom Drake) is unfolded with the accent ac-cent on such aspects as his determination, de-termination, despite insult and mockery, to follow his religious principles; the early fights by which he gains the respect of his schoolmates; the humorous and tragic implications of his adolescent love affair with Allison Al-lison Keith; and his final battle against overwhelming odds to go to the university and pursue his long cherished ambition for a medical career. Through all of Shannon's experiences is shown the hand of his loving great grandfather, who is his fervent defender in every crisis and who is instrumental, even after death, in shaping Robert's future happiness. Coburn portait. of the colorful octogenarian is a glowing one, while Tom Drake, as Shannon, i s sensitive and appealing. Equally fine is the work of little Jean Stockwell, playing Shannon Shan-non in his childhood stages. |
