I ANSWER: First rub down the wood with fine sandpaper and steel wool until the surfaces are smooth and "satin'Mike; then wipe off ths dust with turpentine. If you wish to have an orange maple color, you can get this effect by the application applica-tion of two coats of pure orange shellac. The first coat should ba thinned half-and-half with denatured denatur-ed alcohol. For other shades, apply an oil stain, selecting- the color that you prefer from a color-card at your local paint store. Apply the stain as directed on the label and finish with two coats of quick-drying varnish. QUESTION: The mortar la powdering between the bricks of our chimney. How can I repair ltT ANSWER: Clean out the old mortar to a depth of half an Inch or so, wet the grooves with water, then pack with a mixture of 1 part Portland cement, 1 part hydrated hme and 5 parts of clean, coarse sand with just enough water to make a workable mixture. |
