Show Andrew Hays Gorey Enlists for Officers Training A Salt Lake newspaperman who "always wanted to be a Marine," Mar-ine," is on his way to a commission commis-sion in the famed Leathernecks Andrew Hays Gorey, has enlisted in the Officers Candidate's class and is awaiting an assignment to Quantico, Va., where he will receive re-ceive ten weeks of intensive training train-ing befoi'e being given his commission com-mission as a Second Lieutenant. He will then be instructed for three month as a platoon commander com-mander before being assigned to active duty, or transferred to a specialist's school for further study. Gorey is a graduate of the University Uni-versity of Utah, where he was a member of Sigma Chi, Skull and Bones, Owl and Key, Beehive, Intercollegiate In-tercollegiate Knights, Press club, and Theta Alpha Phi. He won two letters in varisity tennis, was editor of the student newspaper, vice president of the Associated Men's students, president pres-ident of the Press club, a member of the student councils, and active ac-tive in dramatice. He enlisted at the local recruition station. |
